As any animal lover knows, it doesn’t take long for them to steal your heart forever – especially the rescued souls who were given a second chance.  For us, adopting our Dalmatian changed our lives forever.  He got us started in fostering, animal rescue and even led us on a new career path. He is the reason we opened Second Life, a new upscale thrift store in Avondale Estates that benefits homeless pets.

When Paws, Whiskers & Wags asked me to write a blog post on euthanasia, I thought a long time about how to approach the topic.  Since I am a doctor of veterinary medicine, my first instinct was to address euthanasia from a scientific or informational standpoint. But I ultimately decided that if I was going to write about something so important, I needed to take a more personal and emotional approach.
